Chapters (Surahs)

The Holy Quran describes itself as a book of guidance, sometimes offering detailed accounts of specific historical events, and often emphasizing the moral significance of an event over its narrative sequence. As such, it is important to remember that since it’s not a book of stories, it’s not in any chronological order. I will add each segment here as I post them.

Muslims believe that Muhammad, on Allah’s command, gave the chapters their names. Generally, longer chapters appear earlier in the Holy Quran, while the shorter ones appear later. The chapter arrangement is thus not connected to the sequence of revelation.

    • The translation of Shakir uses ‘s’. The ‘th’ sound in English is really for words like ‘thought’. There is no real equivalent for that sound in English, and to me, the ‘s’ comes closest.

Kausar is also used in many other translations, as well as tafseers, so that is why I used it. But anyways, thank you for your comments and attention to detail.

    Won-der-ful mâ châ-a-Llâh !!!
I am a french muslimah currently living in Tunisia and homeschooling my 3 children… I had a similar idea to (re)play History of the islamic civilization with Playmobils. Until now we enjoyed discovering Ibn Battuta’s marvelous journey and some parts of the Egyptian history like the french campaign of Egypt but seen by the muslim side 🙂

We mainly played with playmos in order to nurture wonder for our islamic civilization and heritage, in addition to reading evidently.

One more time : your project is awesome, hope you will continue this way, pics are very professional Allâhi berek !

(ps : if you need help to develop a french version of your project, please feel free to contact me)

Perhaps change the title from “Teaching Kids the Quran” to something more kid friendly? My boys (6, 9 and 11) all thought the content was great (they love Lego and Lego characters) but thought the title wasn’t very kid-friendly. One suggestion was “Sharing the Quran with Kids, one Lego brick at a time” 🙂

    October 12, 2011 at 1:23 am

    • Salaams Sirhum,

Thank you for your suggestion – I will definitely keep it in mind!

There are some legal issues with using the name of a well known brand in one’s blog title, as well as the fact that all types of toys are used on this site (though it’s mostly Lego bricks).

    assalaam alaikum,

great website, very handy for teaching the kids. may i ask why you havent done surah fatihah, surah naas, and surah falaq? reason i ask is, these r the first surahs children learn, and they want to see the surahs they know and are familiar with. helps to cement the connection. please include these surahs soon. many thanks.

    September 15, 2012 at 2:56 pm

    • Salaams.

There is no reason. I do surahs randomly, and certainly I take suggestions from readers – so I will now think about doing these surahs for the reasons you suggest. I will probably leave Surah Falak and Naas for the end, though.

Great initiative. It would be fantastic if this entire collection was available in ebook form. Could be spread much wider, quicker, simplify storage, and be utilised off line. The benefits are huge. Have you considered publishing these as ebooks. Plz do!!

  56. Guzal

I must say this creative way of making the Quran fun to understand is amazing. Heck I’m 26 and loving this lego tafseer! XD May Allah reward you plenty for this!
I am anxiously waiting for the rest of the Surahs to come! Insha Allah you get to finish the entire Quran this way.
However everytime I read this I need to have the original Quran open next to me. Can I ask why you don’t just include the original Ayat in Arabic right next to the English translation?

    May 5, 2016 at 4:20 am

    • One reason why I don’t include original Arabic ayats is that readers have told me they like it that way. Sometimes kids use the books and they are not as careful with it as they should be with an Arabic mushaf, so it’s better this way. Thanks for reading and for the suggestion.
